I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I regard my body. Honestly, I don’t regard it very highly…and I’m ashamed and sorry about that. I’m ashamed because I am so quick to put my body down, or feel badly about how I think my body looks, or gawk at its flaws. What I am not so quick to do is to appreciate it for what it has done for me! My body’s sole purpose is to do my bidding; it gets me where I want to go and does whatever I tell it to day in and day out. What a thankless job! Here’s this chick complaining about the lump here or the sag there and all I’ve ever done is exactly what she’s told me to do! How is THAT fair!?!?!
So, I want to take this time to truly honor my body, and I invite you to do the same! Here’s how I’m going to do that…I’m going to make an ongoing list of all of the things my body has done for me! When I think back on all of the sports, adventures, workouts, travel, and activities that I’ve done in the past 42 years, I’m pretty amazed at what my body and I have accomplished together!
Ready…here’s a start at what my body has done:
– Water skied, snow skied, sledded, swam, inter-tubed, and floated down countless snowy mountains, through rivers, lakes, oceans, and pools.
– Hiked, walked, skipped, jumped, climbed, and ran over mountains, hills, meadows, roads, trails, fields, and forests.
– Kicked, punched, struck, broken, blocked, thrown and rolled hanging bags, focus pads, boards, opponents, and coaches.
Not a bad starter list for just a regular old girl, huh?
So, let’s do it! Let’s honor our bodies for all that they do for us, every day, for the rest of our lives!!! What has your body done for you lately???

Hop skotch, tether ball, four square, ballet & dodge ball were a few of the things my body did for me when I was a little girl. In my pre-teen years, my body took me through a short stint in track and field which included participation in the Junior Olympics. While a teenager, my body allowed me to both water and snow ski, scuba dive, play volleyball, & backpack through Europe.
My early adult years allowed my body to graduate from both the police and fire academies, raft down class four white water and hang glide; but the most amazing thing my body has ever done was to give birth twice. This was by far the most miraculous thing my body has ever done. Thank you Annie for reminding me to love my body for all that it has done for me.
As I get older, I find myself scrutinizing my body like never before. Thank you again for this wonderful reminder of how awesome our bodies are and what they have done for us.

Wow, Kelly!!! Yes, your body has done some pretty incredible things for you, and I agree that creating, nurturing, and birthing (even via c-section) a baby is the most amazing thing that our bodies have done. Definitely appreciate that beautiful and capable thing for all it has done! Amazing! xoxo

Love this!! I need to love my body much more! I’m always putting it down for the things it won’t do or how it looks! You are an inspiration Annie!

Thank you, Megan!!! I definitely believe we need to be kinder and more appreciative of our bodies. We’re so quick to criticize…but they really are amazing creations! You go, girl!!! xoxo
