Hoot ‘n Annie headed out on another wine tasting adventure. We hit up Caliza Winery, www.calizawinery.com located off 46 West in what they call the Templeton Gap out of Paso Robles. A small boutique winery that produces approximately 1200 cases of Rhone style wines. The couple that owns and makes the wine were also pouring in the tasting room. Carl and Pam Bowker were very knowledgeable and accommodating, they made our tasting experience a good one!

Annie says: Loved the white blend, called Kissing Cousins…a blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier, it had a really nice creamy, floral taste. I love the Rhone whites, and this was another really good one. The tasting room was really cool, quaint and comfortable with lots of windows to let you take in the views of the surrounding hills while you sip. I’d definitely go back to this place, and take friends. They don’t have a long list of things to taste, but what they do pour is quality!
P.S. We mentioned the varietal Alicante Bouschet in the video…we hadn’t heard of it and didn’t know anything about it so we did what most people do – googled it. Here’s the link to Wikipedia’s definition for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alicante_Bouschet
Enjoy!
Hoot says: I enjoyed the wine quite a bit, wasn’t disappointed with anything on the list. The atmosphere was great and it was a beautiful day. Carl, co-owner, poured the wine for us and he was a fun guy to talk to. And he explained the wines in an easy, understandable way. Met Pam, the other owner, toward the end of our visit and we chatted about wine/ food events that Paso Robles will be having. Great place all the way around, look forward to seeing Carl and Pam again. Oh, and we know we have issues with the volume, I’m loud and Annie’s quiet (like I haven’t heard that before). We got the fix to that coming in our fourth video, one more bad volume video on the way though. Thanks guys.
