Out in Cambria, in the West Village, there’s a tasting room called Black Hand Cellars. It’s all tucked in amongst the shops and restaurants of the main drag of this cool tourist town (yes, cool…often 40-50 degrees cooler than Paso Robles during the Summer months!!!). As far as the tasting room goes, it’s very pleasant, but pretty low key. This is a family run business, owned by the Banishes, and that means that you’ll likely get your wine poured by either the owner or his wife. The label, an actual black hand, is the handprint of their young daughter…so it’s a pretty cool story. Each wine showcases a roaring 20’s mobster theme that gives the place a depth and some character. We tasted through the list of mostly reds with a Rose’ to start and a port style to finish…and the Dealbreaker – Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend really caught our eye. Black Hand is a neat little place to stop in and taste, go on in and let them tell you their story!
