As many of you know, we went on a mini road trip down to the Solvang/Los Olivos area over Easter weekend in order to do some exploratory wine tasting and then spend Easter Sunday with Annie’s family in Santa Maria. Our first tasting room stop on the trip was in Los Olivos at Consilience. The last time we were there was something like three and half to four years ago.
It’s a very cool little tasting room right on the main drag with a cozy little porch right out front…a great spot to hang out with a glass and watch the world go by!
We tasted through a Pinot Gris, a Roussanne, three Syrahs, and their Cuvee Mambo Red…and they did not disappoint!! The 2006 Star Lane Vineyard Syrah really stood out, as did the Roussanne and Cuvee Mambo.
Consilience says that their goal is to make consistently good wines (mainly Rhones) that are expressive of the varietal, and then to deliver them with the utmost in customer service. We’d have to say that they succeeded on all fronts! Angela poured for us and was awesome! She was super knowledgeable and very cool to chat with.
We like to engage with people when we’re out tasting. It makes the overall experience so much more memorable. Angela shared some great information about the area and was obviously passionate about the Consilience product, and wine in general. Pretty sure we’ll be sharing a glass with Angela again sometime soon!
So, next time you’re anywhere near Los Olivos, stop in to Consilience and check them out. It’s one of those places that you’ll want to stay a while…for the wine, for the people, and for the experience! That’s what it’s all about, right?

Been there, nice place, so I don’t need to see inside. I’m not a fan of Syrah either. I hope you got to visit Fess Parker’s winery, I don’t recall if he has a tasting room downtown.
Hoot 'n Annie says
Hey Bev! We really enjoyed the Consilience Syrah, which was super cool! We didn’t make it to Fess Parker’s this time…drove by it on Sunday morning, but they were closed. Beautiful spot a few miles north of Los Olivos. Cheers, and happy Monday!!!

I was there for 4 hours when we stopped by. That included the sister property next door, Tre Anelli…
Hoot 'n Annie says
We hit Tre Anelli, too! A great couple of places to taste! Whoa, 4 hours??? That’s awesome!!!

Does Annie know you drink beer?? I’ll bet not. I’m so embarrassed for you. You missed some great tri-tip and Cab. But if you prefer pastries and beer what can I say. Please tell me you don’t shave your legs too.
Hoot (or Matt) says
Hey Gary…yes, she knows I drink beer, it’s her fault…she buys it!! And I only shave my legs on my birthday each year because I like to put a pretty dress on, makes me feel special…ain’t that a Hoot!! I’m sure we missed some great food, and of course the wine. You seem to do those BBQ’s out there pretty ofetn during the Spring/ Summer, so I’m sure we’ll be out for more of them and bring friends with us!!
Gary Eberle says
Have you seen me in my blue dress??? Takes tour breath away.
