When we walked into the Grand Tasting at Hospice du Rhone our first interview was with Kevin Sass , who we were introduced to as the new winemaker at Halter Ranch. So, after chatting up some of our wine connections in the area, we’ve heard that Kevin will be taking over after the amazing Bill Sheffer (current winemaker) finishes up the 2011 wines.
Kevin is a super nice guy and due to our superior interviewing skills we found out he was the winemaker at Justin Winery for quite some time prior to joining Halter Ranch. It’s great to see our local wine making talent at a huge, International event like this one!
Halter Ranch is undoubtedly one of those wineries/ tasting rooms we tell people to go to….it is amazingly gorgeous out there. It’s a bit of a drive from downtown Paso Robles but word to your mother, the facility is just awesome. It takes you back in time…the architecture of the many buildings on the property is breathtaking. Wander around the grounds before or after tasting their great wine and check out the restored Victorian, the covered bridge, or the old barn and outbuildings. Just some seriously cool stuff all the way around!
