There is something amazingly entertaining about listening to an auctioneer do his thing, especially when the stuff being auctioned off is wine, wine trips, wine dinners, and other wine related things. This particular auction took place at Hospice du Rhone, the auctioneer is Todd Ventura and the emcee is Cris Cherry of Villa Creek Restaurant and Villa Creek Winery. These two really did a great job and entertained the crowd, but more importantly money was being raised to help support Hospice du Rhone.
In this specific part of the auction, a dinner prepared by John Alban and Vicki Carroll paired with Rhone wines gets auctioned off for a cool $6,000 and then Justin Smith of Saxum Winery had donated a 3 liter hand painted bottle of 2008 Bone Rock James Berry Vineyard, which ended up going for $4,300!!! And no, we weren’t the ones that bought either (damn it)! Check out the video, especially if you’ve never watched an auction before.
Thanks again to the Hospice du Rhone crowd for a truly great time!!

so where does the money go towards? (6,000 & 4,300) that’s pretty generous. Sounds like a lot of fun, the auctioneer was excellent.

Hey Bev, the auction money goes to support the event and the other fun things that Hospice du Rhone puts on throughout the year. They host some smaller Rhone gatherings and tweet-ups during the year, and then throw the huge event in April. Great stuff, and they put on some seriously cool events!

Glad you posted this! I heard all about it from my boyfriend but didn’t get a chance to make it to HDR this year. Thank you!

Hey Christina, so glad you got to watch! HdR was so cool, and such a great learning experience for us (along with tons of fun). Loved the auction, it was pretty exciting to watch the auctioneers doing their thang. Maybe we’ll get to see you there next year???
