We stopped in at Ortman Family Vineyard’s Tasting Room in downtown Paso Robles to get some tastes of their delectable wines and chat with our good friend, Hollie. We also wanted to talk to Ortman about the Second Annual #CabernetDay, seeing as how they make some damn good Cabernet Sauvignon.
First, about Ortman…you’ve heard us talk about them here before and there’s a reason that we love to go back in whenever we get a chance; the people are awesome, the tasting room is cool, and the wines are great! It’s one of those trifecta places that we like to tell you about. The line up of wines is always interesting, ranging from Rose to Chardonnay to Pinot Noir and even Sangiovese. There’s a rich family history at Ortman, starting with Chuck Ortman, aka “Mr. Chardonnay” and continuing with his son, Matt Ortman who’s creating quite a wine legacy in his own right!
Now, on to #CabernetDay…to give you a quick rundown on what this means, it’s a Social Media virtual gathering all about Cabernet Sauvignon, originated by acclaimed Social Media personality, Rick Bakas. By using the “hash tag” #CabernetDay on Twitter, you can Tweet about the Cab that you’re enjoying and join in a conversation with thousands of people sipping on Cab all over the world! The big day is September 1st, so get your bottles lined up and your friends ready to taste, chat, and enjoy in the wonder that is Cabernet Sauvignon! Ortman will be there with us on September 1st, along with many other Paso Robles Cabs and we promise you’ll learn, sip, enjoy, and share your Cabs with other wine lovers from places like Napa, New York, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond!

TGIF….Cool, got to check out this place and see their bathroom too…lol I have a lawn bag of corks, which I was making a couple of wreaths but need help on it so if you know who I can donate them to in exchange for them finishing up my wreath or cork board, that would be awesome. Cheers!
You made it to Ortman, Bev? Yay!!! As far as the corks, we’re still trying to figure out what to do with all of ours, too. I’ve started putting them in the outdoor potted plants, makes a cool mulch that helps insulate the dirt and keep it moist. You can throw them all over the garden…kind of like bark but better looking!
No, sorry I haven’t been there yet, I meant to sayI got to add them to my bucket list. Thanks for the idea for my corks, I put them in my potted plants.

If you haven’t tried Ortman wines you are missing some of the best made wines in the world. Chuck Ortman is one of Californias iconic winemakers. He has been making wine since the mid sixties and is widely acclaimed as one of the best. It was one of the best things that happened to the Paso wine scene when he moved here from Napa in ’77 and became the founding winemaker at Meridian. Now that he and his family have started their own winery we can continue to look forward to great wines coming from this great wine family. Great wines, great people although Chuck does dress funny at times.
Woohooo! You tell ’em Gary! We agree, there are some incredible wines that come out of that family, and we’ve decided to make it our mission to keep up on all the new vintages! Oh yeah, and the old ones, too! Speaking of dressing funny, we’ve heard some stories about some interesting wardrobe decisions coming from the Club Eb camp, as well! hehehe.
Yeah I may dress funny at times, but I keep my knickers up.
