It’s definitely that time of year; the change of seasons is upon us. The trees are changing color, grapes have been harvested, there’s already snow in the East, and there’s a chill in the air here, in Paso Robles. The Summer season has given way to Autumn and before we know it, the Holidays will be upon us and we’ll be in the dead of Winter. Where does the time go? Well, that’s another topic…so let’s talk drinking, shall we?
Do your drinking habits change with the seasons? Ours sure do…when it’s 100 degrees outside, we chill all of our whites, drink a lot of Rose, and mostly stay away from red wines. We also reach for a cold, light beer or refreshing cocktail instead of a comforting, cozy glass of vino.
Some may say that the weather outside doesn’t change what they like to drink; do you agree?
– Ice cold Sauvignon Blanc in the heat of Summer?
– Scotch on the rocks by the fire on a cold Winter night?
– Gin and tonic instead of Syrah after hanging outside on a warm afternoon?
– A rich Pinot Noir with a slow-cooked beef stew on a breezy Autumn evening?
Maybe the sights and smells of the seasons changing affect our mood…maybe not. Is it the weather? Is it your mood? Is it the food you’re cooking? It’s hard to say, but there’s definitely some change in the air!!!

I still like a whiskey and seven when I’m thirsty, even in the winter. But my favorite winter standby is a deep, rich port…it’s hard for me to drink port in the spring/summer…it’s a fall/winter comfort thing.

Hey Dahlynn! Completely agree with you…except on the whiskey part. Hoot likes scotch, and I’m working up to it, but can’t really get into whiskey or scotch. Love, love, love port, though!!!

Of course!! I cherish the minor distinctions we get in L.A. seasons in particular because food, drink, even where we set up dinner (outside versus in by the fire) change. It makes the year go-round. For me the bigger reds are coming out, next to a pot of stew or chili!!
Hope you both are well, and have a great birthday this week Matt!!

Hey Scott! Ha! Love the LA season thing…or lack of it, even the subtle change can affect what sounds good to drink, right? Dinner outside by the fire sounds awesome, let us know what time and we’ll be there! Thanks for the birthday wishes…we’re doing great, hope to see you soon!!!
