A week or so back we decided to go coastal, which is much better than going postal…just sayin’! We decided to adventure over to Cambria and check out the elephant seals. We hadn’t seen them in a year or two and to be honest, we weren’t necessarily missing them, we just get a laugh out of them. Actually, put wine aside for a moment, the greatest thing on the Central Coast is nature…from all the different types of land and sea animals, to the ocean, lakes, and oak tree jungles, it’s absolutely gorgeous here year round!
The Adventure Continues…
So as we were watching the tons (literally, tons and tons) of elephant seals we saw some sleeping, some play fighting, some hopping and bouncing after other seals, and so on…one thing you notice in your silence is how many foreign languages you hear. On this trip alone we heard at least three different languages and I notice that every time I come to this spot north of San Simeon. I suppose it’s because HWY 1 is so scenic and they stop to see the animals…who knows.
After leaving the adorable little (not really little) elephant seals we headed back in to downtown Cambria and went to Black Hand Cellars to taste some wine…this is a must-stop in Cambria; this small production winery really does make some tasty wines and I enjoy the creativity and the story behind the hand logo on the glass and the labels on the bottles. Check them out and find out for yourself!
From there we went over to this new brewery called Cambria Beer Company, they had run out of a couple of beers a day or two earlier but still had three on the menu so I did the sampler and then got a pint of their American Amber Ale called Toyon (oh, and they also have a root beer, that’s what Annie had). If you’re into beer at all I suggest giving them a try, as with wine, you only truly learn about these beverages and your palate by consuming!! The owners were super cool and laid back and it’s a easy going joint to sit back and watch the world outside go by!
After all this magic we headed down to eat at the Main Street Grill which I think is a great spot for sandwiches, salads, or BBQ everything!! It was an absolutely perfect day in Cambria so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine and the fun people watching!
So cheers to another adventure in our book…still heading for 50 in 2012, we’re a bit behind but we haven’t counted some things as adventures out of laziness and I figure come October when Little Browne gets here…EVERYDAY will be an adventure!!! Do you adventure? What was your last one?
