Winter in Paso Robles seems to be the time Annie and I spend catching our breath. It’s that time of year where things really seem to slow down here in Paso Robles…wineries aren’t as busy, some restaurants have shorter hours, some places even close for the winter, and the number of wine events drop significantly. As someone that is self-diagnosed as A.D.D. and Lord only knows what else…I get antsy.
This year is obviously a little bit different because we have Sammy and a two month old is really good at keeping two adults busy but I still find myself wondering; what next? Even with Sammy, Annie working part-time before she goes back to work full time in January, me working on this new business, and all the Christmas parties…I still find myself missing that fast pace, big city life that we live here in Paso Robles from Spring to Fall. Okay, fast pace and big city may not be completely accurate but you must know what I’m talking about.
What do you think about this time of year? Do you like the slow down? Does it even slow down for you?

I completely understand where you are coming from Matt, but since I am much older it is kind of nice to slow down during the winter months, only because I am still unemployed and having to cut back on a lot of going out, which I miss going to wine country, but will try to catch up in the new year, and praying for a new job too. Give Sammy a kiss for me. Cheers!
Hoot (or Matt) says
I will pass the kiss on to Sammy, Bev!! I hear ya…I think that’s the one nice thing during this slow time of year is that we can catch up on things, re-evaluate, and make plans for the new year. Cheers to you!!! 🙂

With a vineyard, it is kind of nice not going “balls-to-the-wall” for once! Once harvest season ended and then the last wines were in their barrels, the pace dropped off significantly. Now we can plan for what will transpire in the next year like the final planting of our vineyard, enjoy visiting with friends locally and appreciate all that we have been blessed with!
Oh…and we might get in a little more golf! Hope to see the “Brownes 3” soon…Merry Christmas!
Hoot (or Matt) says
I hear ya Steve…I think that’s the only good thing about winter for me is the fact that it’s almost kind of a reset button. Suppose we need that from time to time. What’s your schedule like?? You can let me know on Facebook if you want…we can have you over to our house for some wine if you’re open to that.

Slow tlime of the year? I still haven’t wrapped my presents for last year yet. It seems to me that Dec. is the busiest month even though we try to schedule no events except for events at the winery. It’s crazy. However, there are really fun things to do this month. Having a fire in the fireplace without having to run the air-conditioner, hot tubbing in the morning where you have to walk over frosted grass to get to the tub. I know we only have 3 seasons in Paso, and all of them have wonderful things to do during them. I especially love summer in Paso. Serious lake time and long balmy evenings with friends, wine and cheese. I can’t wait to get the fire going tonight, open a bottle of Port, and sit down to watch Debbie does Dallas.
Hoot (or Matt) says
LOL…we need to come hang out with you my friend. Sounds like you’re about to have one AMAZING evening!! I hear ya though…the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) certainly make things busy. My favorite is Fall and Spring in Paso…not too cold and not too hot…typically.

I enjoy this time of year in wine country (though I’ve not been to Paso this time of year)..things are less hectic…
Hoot 'n Annie says
It’s definitely beautiful here in Paso, Martin! Winter has finally arrived and it’s cold outside and cozy inside! Makes you want to open a great bottle of red and enjoy the fire! Cheers!!!

Matt…would love to get together over a bottle of wine! Probably best after Christmas?
Hoot (or Matt) says
Steve…that would be fine. Just let me know what works for you. Look forward to it!!
