I’ll say the most important thing first and then give you some detail.
If you haven’t been to Cass Winery you need to get dressed right now, find someone fun to take with you, and head over as soon as possible. If you have been before…go again.
Here’s why…
Cass Winery is a unique spot on the east side of Paso Robles. You always hear people talking about the beauty of west side Paso Robles, especially out on Vineyard Drive (we’ve talked about it too) but here’s the thing, Linne Road on the east side offers an amazing drive of rolling hills, vineyards, and wildlife. I’m not kidding, check it out some time.
In addition to having some very nice wines (which I will cover in a second) Cass Winery is also SIP Certified (Sustainability in Practice) which I am somewhat biased toward (because I do some work for SIP). They also offer an amazing onsite café (they can host private parties and events as well as offer catering), we’ve eaten there a couple of times and it’s worth the short drive over just to eat. Cass Winery also provides one of the things high on my list of importance…awesome customer service. Granted our friend Lindsay took care of us but even back when we first when out there and we didn’t know anyone, they were still awesome!
Now to the breakdown of wine:
2011 Roussanne
2011 Rockin’ One Blanc (56% Viognier, 22% Marsanne, 22% Roussanne)
2010 Sparkling Grenache
2010 Grenache
2010 Mourvedre
2010 Rockin’ One Red (47% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 11% Petite Sirah, 10% Mourvedre)
2009 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
2010 Syrah Dessert Wine
On this day we walked away with some Roussanne and Grenache. After all, we have to save some money for diapers for Sammy. I think this kid is cutting into our wine habit.
Now to the food:
We like to share and split food so we can maximize the different tastes that we get to have! Keeping with that theme, we went with an incredible Pulled Pork Tri Tip Sandwich on a freshly-baked roll with some tasty, spicy BBQ sauce. Doesn’t get much better than all that! And to be sure we got our greens in, we ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad with a delightful citrus vinaigrette, dried fruit, and other goodies all mixed up together! There’s a ton of other tasty looking stuff on their Cafe menu, and you can have the recommended wine pairing with whatever you order, or go through their tasting list while you enjoy your food….or both! Like we did!
Here’s some pics…we’re working on Smell-a-Vision for all these food pics we show you!

I loved the Grenache when I tried it recently. Sounds like they have a good lineup.

David, I think Cass is one of those wineries that has the whole package…good wine, food on site, great property and location, and the people are super cool. Glad you liked their Grenache!! 🙂

I will have to check it out when I’m back in town next month. I’ll have a couple of out-of-state friends with me! The food looks delicious!
Hoot (or Matt) says
Definitely Pat…the food is amazing and I’m impressed with the selection! The wines are good too of course and the property is really cool. If it’s warm enough you can sit out on the patio and eat! Cheers!
