Yep, I said beer! Paso Robles is definitely known for the wine, which I love, but I’m excited to see more of a beer scene here, with the arrival of another microbrewery…BarrelHouse Brewing Company. Everyone knows Firestone Walker Brewery is here and I love their beer, but it’s nice to have some variety…you know?
And no, I have not forgotten that Downtown Brew and Paso Robles Brewing are here too. I’m just bringing this NEWEST brewery to light.
My honest first reaction to the location was what the hell were they thinking but after going over there this past weekend…I think it’s perfect! On the outside it’s an industrial complex which is cool but there’s this big grassy landscaped area down the side of the brewery that’s kind of like an oasis. Based on the fact you’re in an industrial area you just wouldn’t think there’d be this kind of a space. It’s complete with a rock formation thingy and a pond/ waterfall feature and let’s not leave out the old flatbed truck that serves as the stage for live music.
The inside of this joint is…well…kick ass. As you’ll see from the photos below, it’s rustic and super comfortable to hang out in. I (and Annie) loved the vibe and Bri, the one that took care of us, was saying that there’s a lot of repurposed/ recycled material there (old barn wood, doors, etc.), which I think is not only cool but important to do.
Now on to the beer.
They had a Kolsch, a Pale, an IPA, and a Stout. All were good although I don’t drink a lot of Stout so there will be more of that for you. The Kolsch was mellow; it would be my “doing yard work on a 95 degree day” beer. My favorites were the Pale and the IPA for sure…which makes perfect sense because that’s the style of beer I drink most often. They were running low on beer because the previous weekend they got slammed on their opening day…so you could only get the Pale and the Stout in the pint, otherwise you could do the taster and try all four.
They have more stuff coming very soon so be on the lookout for that. And I can guarantee you that you’ll see us down there quite a bit.
Another cool thing for those people in your group that aren’t into beer is that First Crush wine tasting room is right across the road. First Crush is open Thursday through Monday and BarrelHouse is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
So they have good beer, great customer service, super awesome spot inside and out, but I also love their website and logo. It might seem dumb to bring that up but I’m into that kind of thing and I think they’ve covered those really well.
Cheers folks, go check ‘em out and maybe we’ll see you down there!
