This past Saturday evening was the soft opening for the brand new amphitheater at Vina Robles Winery on HWY 46 East here in Paso Robles (thanks to our friend J-Dog for getting us in to that!!).
I think this place is going to be an amazing venue to listen to live music and I also think it will be a great thing for our area. The venue seats roughly 3,000 to 3,500 people and the seating varies between being able to bring a blanket and sit on the grass, to pub tables, box seats, and regular seating down closer to the stage.
The acoustics were great and the layout, in my opinion, was well done. There were a few spots to grab food, wine, or beer and the selection was good. My guess is that the offerings will evolve over time. There will apparently be a restaurant you can eat at prior to the concerts which will be pretty cool as well.
One aspect I liked quite a bit is that you can’t forget you’re in Paso Robles because as you look around you can see the rolling hills with vineyards in some directions as well as the oak trees that we’re known for. It really is a beautiful scene and I think they did a great job with the facility.
The staff did a great job for their first time and the little bit of confusion I did see will wear off as they get a few shows under their belt. Our friend (Jeanette) that got us in has box seats, and with that you get access to the VIP area which was pretty cool and when in your box you get a waitress which is a nice added feature.
It was all local bands for the soft opening but check their schedule for this first season. For it being a brand new venue I think they put a pretty solid list of entertainers together. Overall I’m stoked to have the amphitheater here because prior to that our only real option for live music was the Mid State Fair once a year. This obviously opens that up and I love that it has the similar vibe to the Santa Barbara Bowl…small, intimate, and after this initial visit not chaotic like the bigger venues.
Did you go? What did you think of it?

I performed with my band, Zongo All-Stars for the opening. I was extremely impressed with the new venue! Big enough to bring in world class acts, yet intimate enough to make it special no matter where you’re sitting. Sound was great, management was great, and a true pleasure to experience such a beautiful venue so close to home! Already got some tix to some of the upcoming shows & looking forward to seeing this unfold!

Hey Paul! LOVED you guys…that was a great show! I completely agree with you on all points abut the place. Love the layout and all the food and drink spots. We’re really looking forward to the Moody Blues concert in October! Maybe we’ll see you there…cheers!!!
