Another adventure in Cambria. Life could be worse. This visit to Cambria is brought to you by VisitCambriaCa.com. As some of you may know I am currently a Cambria ambassador which simply means, promote Cambria through my visits, my experiences, and my adventures.
Annie (my wife) and I headed over to Cambria recently for an overnight away from Paso Robles…and away from our two year old son, Sammy. On this overnight we had the opportunity to stay at El Colibri Hotel & Spa…and what a stay it was!
I’ve driven by the hotel hundreds of times on my way to Moonstone Beach so it was awesome to finally stop in and check it out. I have to stop and fill you in on a little story before I get into the hotel specifics. When we arrived and entered the lobby I noticed production lights, a couple of guys with big cameras, and other “production” people. It turns out there was a pilot being shot for a new reality television show.
Weird, right?
Well, it turned out to be pretty cool actually. Through our stay we chatted with some of the production people and due to this happening in the hotel the employees and owners were extremely accommodating. They wanted to be sure the shooting wasn’t interfering with our time there.
That funny tidbit aside, the lobby and wine bar area are beautiful. Especially the bar area…you know how I like bars. There’s a small bar and plenty of other seating including couches as well as tables. The fire in the corner was a beautiful touch during this fall season on the Central Coast too.
I thought they had a great wine list, good lineup of beers, and they even offer tapas. We sat at the bar for a bit that evening as they were shooting the reality show behind us on the couches; that was pretty interesting. The hotel owners were very gracious, apologizing for any inconvenience and giving us a round on the house.
The room…well, it was spectacular. Clean, decorated well but not overdone at all. It was classy, you’ll see the pics in the slideshow below. The room name says it all, Woodland View Superior King with Spa Tub. When Annie had looked at Yelp to see what people had said about the hotel she noticed that all the reviews were great. The only thing a few people had said was that they were disappointed there was no ocean view…um, hello, if you want an ocean view ask before you book the room.
What’s nice is the Moonstone Beach boardwalk starts right near the hotel so you can take a picturesque walk down to one of my favorite beaches on the planet. I would absolutely stay there again. Superb rooms. Awesome little wine bar. Extremely close to the beach and main street Cambria. It’s perfect!
Thanks to Visit Cambria, the El Colibri owners, as well as Jason and Danielle that took care of us when we were at the wine bar! Cheers!
