As I mentioned in our last blog post, we had been in San Francisco for a concert and we had decided to go through Saratoga on our way back over to San Jose. I discussed our restaurant experience at The Basin in the last post and this time I will let you know about our wine tasting experience at Big Basin Vineyards.
Dushan was the man with the plan…otherwise known as the one in charge of filling our glasses and educating us on their wines. He had a lot to deal with as the three of us (Annie, myself, and our friend Sean) were a little out of sorts. He got us back on track though.
So here’s what we tasted:
2013 Coastview Vineyard Chardonnay $48.00
2013 Woodruff Vineyard Pinot Noir $59.00
2012 Gabilan Mountains GSM (46% Grenache 39% Syrah 15% Mourvedre) $44.00
2013 Syrah (91% Syrah 5% Grenache 4% Viognier) $36.00
2012 Old Corral Syrah (91% Syrah 9% Grenache) $55.00
The wines were quite nice. We walked away with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (damn you Pinot Noir, you’re an expensive habit). If you are in the area I strongly encourage you to stop in and taste. Well worth it.
It also seemed like a cool spot to hang out and have a glass. There was some indoor seating as well as a deck out front you can lounge on. The nice thing is that Big Basin Vineyards is walking distance to the restaurant, The Basin, which I talked about in my last blog post.
Be sure to check out the tasting room and let me know what you think!
