A couple of weeks back our friend Sean was in town and we (Sean, Sammy, Annie, and I) decided to head over to Cayucos. Normally we take HWY 46 West to Old Creek Rd. to HWY 1. This time we decided to go through Templeton. We hit Santa Rita Rd. from Vineyard Drive. It’s a dirt road (which is fun in our new Jeep) but well maintained. There’s a nice spot along the drive where you hit pretty good elevation with views but much of the drive is think with trees and brush…it’s beautiful.
I strongly recommend driving slow. Like I said, it is a dirt road and there are some houses along the way, not to mention many blind corners. Other than that though, if you have the time, it’s a great drive. It drops you off on Old Creek Rd. right before the reservoir. The you just follow that to HWY 1 and make a right to head north and the main street in Cayucos will be your next exit.
Once there we hit up the beach to let Sammy play on the big playground and just take in the peaceful sounds of waves crashing. Of course, it’s not truly a visit to Cayucos without hitting up Schooner’s. We got a table upstairs and outside to enjoy more ocean views and people watching.
So that’s that…another adventure in the books.

I’ve always wanted to take that route. Looks fun!

It’s a fun drive. Love all those back road drives: Old Creek, Santa Rita, Santa Rosa, etc.

We recently took Santa Rita Road home from Cayucos – a must do on the Central Cost for sure. Gorgeous and serene.

For sure. Santa Rosa going out to Cambria is pretty cool too.
