Music in Familiar Spaces stops at kukkula Winery in Paso Robles Wine Country for an evening of Bach & Blends
Internationally-recognized cellist Steuart Pincombe and his wife Michelle left professional careers in Europe for a chance to live in a 1959 19-foot travel trailer on a yearlong journey around North America. Their mission: to bring the classical music experience of the highest level into the familiar spaces of cafes, breweries, bookstores, and homes across the country in a way accessible to a wide audience. At the end of September their trailer stops in Paso Robles Wine Country to present a concert in collaboration with kukkula Winery.
The concert – taking place on Saturday, September 24th at 5:00 pm on the winery crush pad – is entitled “Bach & Blends” and features three Bach Cello Suites paired with three of kukkula’s wines, each selected to compliment the unique character of each cello suite. The music will be interlaced with short explanations of Steuart’s historical, interpretive approach along with comments from the winery on the growing, aging and blending process for each of the wine selections.
Steuart and Michelle’s tour, dubbed Music in Familiar Spaces, has the aim of making high caliber classical music available to a wide and varied audience. Not only are performances in familiar, comfortable and untraditional spaces, but the audience is invited to experience the music in a new and engaging way, with an added focus on audience interaction and without rules of the traditional concert hall. Seating is limited so tickets must be purchased in advance through kukkula’s website. The wine pairing is offered for $25 (sold in advance) and audience members will be asked to “name-their-own-ticket-price” at the door for the concert, paying what they believe the concert is worth.
