Our good friend, Catherine over at Jaeger Wine Communications just sent us this cool tidbit! Beaverstock has been one of our favorite events to attend locally for a number of reasons. I’m glad they grabbed the bull by the horns and came up with a cool new name! Take that, Woodstock!
The Udsen Family Announces New Name for Beaverstock:
WHALE ROCK MUSIC and ARTS FESTIVAL
Woodstock Forces Name Change with Cease and Desist Demand
March 21, 2017 (Templeton, CA) – The Udsen family of Castoro Cellars has announced a new name for their popular Beaverstock Music and Arts Festival: WHALE ROCK MUSIC and ARTS FESTIVAL. The new name is a natural fit, as the event is held on Castoro’s organically farmed estate Whale Rock Vineyard each year. The Whale Rock Disc Golf Course and Informational Ranch Tour is also on the property. The name change is a result of a Cease and Desist Demand issued by the Woodstock Music and Art Fair claiming trademark infringement.

The original Beaverstock in 2013 was a 30th anniversary party the Udsen family threw for their winery, Castoro Cellars. It was such a big hit that they decided to make it an annual event and have been at it ever since. “It gets bigger and better every year, and we still love putting it on,” said Beaverstock Guru Luke Udsen. “We came up with the Beaverstock name using my father’s ‘Beaver’ nickname, so we are of course emotionally tied to it. And honestly it took us some time to come to grips with the fact that we had to change it. Once we did though, it became sort of exciting to come up with a name for the event that it’s become, the festival that it’s grown into.”
Past Beaverstock and future WHALE ROCK attendees can rest assured that the two-day music and arts festival, featuring back-to-back band performances on two stages, a gallery of local artists, all-ages yoga, kid crafts and games, Castoro wines, craft beers, hard ciders, food trucks and more, will continue to run strong. In addition, the Udsen family’s commitment to the community has not wavered. They will continue to give a portion of event proceeds to a local charitable organization; total donated over the first four years exceeds $50,000.
Beaverstock grew considerably over four years, topping 4,000 attendees in 2016. Click here to see a recap video of the 2016 festival. The 2017 WHALE ROCK MUSIC and ARTS FESTIVAL, the fifth annual event, is set for September 16-17, 2017. Castoro Cellars is located at 1315 North Bethel Road, Templeton, CA 93465.
