We recently decided to check out the brand new, Cane Tiki Room, in downtown Paso Robles. This creation comes from well known Paso restauranteurs, Donovan and Troy, who also own Pappy McGregor’s, 1122 Speakeasy, and Fish Gaucho.
Annie and I, along with our 9-year-old son, went in around the time they open at 4 pm. We’re not into “tiki drinks” but Sammy did order a kid mocktail while I had a beer and Annie enjoyed her usual, vodka soda. What we ordered:
Sammy had the Ahi Poke (#1 sushi grade ahi/ green onion/ sesame/ ginger/ steamed jasmine rice $24)
Annie and I shared the Mongolian Beef (Snake River flank steak/ chili/ hoisin/ soy/ ginger/ garlic/ steamed jasmine rice $24)
Annie and I also shared the Firecracker Shrimp: (shrimp/ chili/ sesame/ soy/ oyster sauce/ garlic/ green onion/ steamed jasmine rice $24)
All the food was fantastic but it’s more food than we thought would be on the plate, which can be a good thing, I suppose. Great share plates, that’s for sure. I will say this, that Firecracker Shrimp was spicier than I expected it to be so just pace yourself. Also, I’m a baby when it comes to spicy stuff.
Bottom line, it’s a cool and unique atmosphere for Paso Robles. The food was great. As for the tiki drinks, my guess is they’re amazing. I look forward to going back in at some point to try the Hawaiian Kabobs, Pork & Shrimp Egg Rolls, and possibly the Spam Musubi.
They are open daily, 4 pm – 10 pm. No reservations, first come first seated.
