Cool title eh?? Well, it’s true, we had some Chronic and pizza. Let me explain.
We recently headed over to Chronic Cellars (yes, a winery…what were you thinking?) for two reasons, 1) we hadn’t been there in over two years and 2) we heard Gypsy Flame would be there making some crazy good pizzas. Although, at the time I did not know they were crazy good since we had never had them before.
First, we tasted through six wines:
~2011 Stone Fox – 29% Marsanne, 28% Roussanne, 26% Viognier, & 17% Grenache Blanc
~2011 Purple Paradise – 85% Zinfandel, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre, 4% Grenache, & 1% Counoise
~2010 Mr. Nibbles – 68% Zinfandel, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre, & 5% Grenache
~2010 Ricardo Grande – 56% Syrah, 22% Grenache, & 22% Mourvedre
~2010 The Unteachables – 60% Petite Sirah, 20% Zinfandel, & 20% Syrah
~A dessert wine: Tranquilo – 100% Late Harvest Petite Sirah
I genuinely thought all the wines were nice but as for what I enjoy buzzing on, I enjoyed the Stone Fox and the Ricardo Grande the most…very good stuff! The other part of Chronic is that it’s a great tasting room and they’ve got their clever marketing down…come on…Ricardo Grande? Or a past favorite, Sofa King Bueno! Anyway, it’s a great spot to check out and play a game of pool or sit outside on a nice day enjoying some Ricardo Bueno!
Next…Gypsy Flame. I had been hearing some good things about Artie so we added Gypsy Flame to the list of “must try” and finally got to do just that. I’m a sucker for pizza, well, good pizza that is. We all know there’s a bunch of average, mediocre pizza out there but this was not that. We enjoyed two pizzas and they were “El Che” which was pineapple, prosciutto, and jalapenos as well as the “Bandito” which had linguica, cilantro, and jalapenos! Both super delicious!!!
It was another enjoyable adventure in Paso Robles! Be sure to check out Gypsy Flame and Chronic Cellars on Facebook and/ or Twitter and obviously go check them out when you’re in town…you won’t be disappointed! Cheers folks and Happy Friday!!!

The labels are a little generational for me, but all of the wines( and I’ve had quite a few) have been outstanding. This is another Paso winery with a bright future in my opinion.

I agree on the labels, Gary! Not sure whether I totally dig them or not, but I certainly appreciate the creativity and humor there. I agree on the wines as well. By the way, congrats on the appearance on The Today Show…well, one of your wines anyways. That IS very cool!!
