So, Happy Day After Mother’s Day!
See, I think we can make everyday a Holiday of some sort and celebrate with alcohol and piñatas. Okay, maybe just the alcohol, no need to give a bunch of drunk adults baseball bats to swing blindly at a piñata…just seems like a bad idea.
Now back to a Hoot n Annie wine run…
Annie’s mom came up yesterday to spend part of Mother’s Day with us (and see Sammy of course, he is the star attraction) and we didn’t really have any plans other than hanging out, chatting, and of course the obligatory mimosa to celebrate Mother’s Day.
However, we decided spur of the moment to head over to Barrel 27 and Hug Cellars. They’re only a few minutes from our house and we were running dangerously low on wine so we headed out. We’ve been to both of these spots before but Hug has always been one of our local favorites. They have a great line up of wines and the owners are some of the nicest people in Paso.
Over at Barrel 27, another great line up of wines and the ladies in there pouring us wine got to experience what relatively new parents do…talk about bowel movements and what not…so, my apologies to them!! All kidding aside, they were great and it was fun hanging out in there for a bit, Annie and I haven’t been there for quite some time.
We walked away from Hug with some of their 2010 el conquistador (43% Cab Sauv, 18% Merlot, 12% Mourvedre, 20% Petit Verdot, and 7% Syrah) and their 2011 Vino Del Cielo (Viognier). Both great wines, we loved everything on the list but you can only grab so much wine. At Barrel 27 we left with their Head Honcho (2009 Syrah), 2010 High on the Hog (white wine), and 2009 Sittin’ Pretty (Viognier). I guess the theme of the day for us was…Viognier!!
So if you’re ever in their neck of the woods, be sure to stop in at Barrel 27 and Hug Cellars, there’s also Brochelle Winery right next to them. We would have gone in there too but we limited ourselves to two and headed back to the air conditioning at the house and Sammy’s nap time.
That’s what our Mother’s Day 2013 consisted of, hope everyone had an enjoyable one. Cheers and Happy Monday!

Jo, Raquel and Augie Hug are absolutely awesome. Love the wines at Barrel 27 as well. I always try to keep some Hug in the house. 🙂

Thank you Annie, Matt cannot leave out (Sammy & Annie’s Mom) for stopping by & for the HUGS & Love. Vino del Cielo is 50% Chardonnay & 50% Viognier, nice sitting in the patio wine, or anyplace. Hehe. Annie you made me laugh……no alcohol and bats pleez.
Once again Thank you for “Giving Your Tongue A Hug.” Thanks & Hugs to Beverly & Jo also.
XOXO

Raquel, thanks for the correction on the Vino del Cielo!! We had a great time in there as usual. And believe it or not, I (Matt) wrote this post. Have to be careful with bats and wine…Hahahaha. 🙂
