Last night (depending on when you are reading this, 10-8-13) we had the chance to go see Steve Martin and Edie Brickell at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre here in Paso Robles…thanks to our friend J-Dog for that, you rock.
If you ever have the chance to check out this facility it is well worth it in my opinion. I think it’s laid out great and I especially like how there are several different types of seating…pub tables, box seat, regular seating down in front, a grassy area for blankets, and I saw some bleachers there as well.
There’s also plenty of spots to get beer or wine along with one or two food spots outside the VIP area. Speaking of the VIP area, it’s pretty bad ass. Again, thanks to our friend we have been able to enjoy that area twice now.
Seeing as how this amphitheater is called the Vina Robles Amphitheatre I understand why they only sell their wines (at least that I saw) but how cool would it be if they offered an additional winery to have their wines there too? Maybe have a winery of the month that can come in for that month and have their wines sold at the concert venue as well. In that case you’d allow 12 other wineries per year be part of that. I think that would be pretty cool…just a thought. Although, maybe there are legality issues with that.
Anyways, this venue is absolutely awesome and the folks that work there are great…go check it out if you haven’t.
As for Steve Martin, Edie Brickell, and the Steep Canyon Rangers…they were off the hook. I didn’t really know if I could sit through an entire concert of a banjo and all that and surprisingly I could have listened longer. Every one of them was outstanding and Steve threw a bunch of his funny, quirky comedy into it between songs. We had a really great time and thank you to Annie’s mom, Karen, for babysitting. I did however feel really old this morning. I’m used to getting to bed by 10pm nowadays knowing Sammy will wake up at 5:30 or 6:00 am…so going to bed at midnight doesn’t work anymore.
So Vina Robles and the Vina Robles Amphitheatre have our stamp of approval, very happy to see a place like this in Paso Robles. Go check ‘em out!! And check out the pics and video below.

We had a great time as well! Last night was our first time buying food on the plaza. The pork sliders and a free slice of wood fired pizza were pretty darn good! A glass of wine for me and a great IPA Tap It beer for Johnny, it was a great inexpensive choice. If you have the bucks, shoot for the dinner paired with each concert. Fabulous food and great staff.
You forgot to mention the shooting stars!
Matt aka Hoot says
Joanie, good call on the shooting star, that was AWESOME!! We didn’t eat there last night but did the first time we went…good stuff. We have one more concert there this year, maybe we’ll try the food that night.

Dear Hoot & Annie,
Thanks so much for joining us last night! We are happy hear you enjoyed your experience and appreciate your comments about the venue and our staff.
We’re working on a solution for featuring other wineries. We were able to feature several wineries at the Colbie Caillat concert in September and everyone only had positive feedback. Stay tuned for our second season!
See you all soon!
Matt aka Hoot says
Simone, that is awesome and thank you. We love your wines too but from your perspective it would be awesome community building to share with others. Good job and well done. We have one more concert this year! Cheers!
Steve Baker says
Sounds like good one…sorry we missed it but after 5 concerts there so far this season we have to be somewhat “discerning”!!! Still have the Moody BLues to finish the season! We sit at the
pub tables (official called “Jardine Tables”) and love it. We have had tickets up front but it is such a hassle to get in and out…people standing the whole time, etc that we have taken to sitting up at the tables and enjoying the VIP treatment i.e. wait service, the private restrooms, and the patio with hors’ d’oeuvres…just cant beat it! Cheers!!!
Matt aka Hoot says
Steve, we will be at that concert too I believe…in the box seat again with our friends. I love the venue, I think they did an awesome job. And yes, you two need to be discerning, you guys are animals!! LOL. Cheers!
J-Dog says
Wine of the month is a good thought… ‘cept they don’t have concerts year-round… How ’bout a additional/different winery for each concert… ? But I like the way you think!
Hoot (or Matt) says
J-Dog, good point on the concerts not being year round. Maybe a per concert thing…would be cool I think and would show great community support within the industry.
Pat says
I am so looking forward to experiencing a concert there! Hopefully next year! I’m so glad that there’s an alternative venue for music! I assume that the acoustics are better there than at the fairgrounds!
Hoot (or Matt) says
Pat, I think the sound is awesome! Honestly, I don’t think there is anything I would change about the venue, I really enjoyed it. Hope you get to go next year!! 🙂
