In my world, tortillas are one of the best things that exist. There’s just nothing better than a warm, toasty tortilla filled with pretty much anything from cheese to spicy chicken to crispy fish. Well, I figured that such goodness must mean that there’s some trick to making them, or that only the most seasoned professionals could do it. Guess what? I was wrong! They were so easy…and quick…and delicious! Want to try it, too? Here you go…
What you’ll need:
2 cups Masa Harina (corn flour)
1 1/4 cup water
Tortilla press or a heavy skillet
Plastic ziploc bag
Method:
Mix the flour and water together and knead it until it’s nice and smooth, about 2 minutes. Form balls that are about 1″ in diameter. Cut the ziploc bag open down the sides and set it in the tortilla press. The ball will go in between the plastic so it doesn’t stick to the press. Set a ball in the middle of the press between the plastic and gently press down. If you’re using a heavy skillet, do the same thing with the plastic, just use the skillet to press the dough ball flat. Press it so it’s thin, but still has a slight thickness or it will tear. Pull the tortilla off the plastic and set it in a skillet over medium heat. Cook on both sides about 3 minutes per side.
You can eat them right out of the skillet, or I like to then cook them over an open flame burner to get crispy on the edges. Enjoy…you’re gonna be addicted, just like me!
