So, you can find The Fableist Wine Co. tasting room in Tin City right next to Tin City Cider. But, did you know they recently took over the Pomar Junction Winery tasting room? Well, they did and it looks nothing like it used to. You can see a few photos below but go see it for yourself, there’s a lot more I didn’t get pics of.
Another difference at this location versus their Tin City spot, they are doing seated tastings. You can grab a seat outside, there are several spots, or you can pick one of four (three of four) locations inside. Basically, they bring you a glass of water, a bowl of crackers, and one wine at a time. It’s pretty cool, although I’m a big fan of standing since I’m used to standing all day. That said, it was absolutely an enjoyable experience.
Here’s what we tasted:
2018 Gruner Veltliner
2018 Chardonnay
2017 Zinfandel
2018 Merlot
2017 Malbec
2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
Not on the menu:
2017 Pinot Noir
2016 Tempranillo
Those of you that are familiar with Fableist know that every bottle is $20.00. You don’t see many wineries doing that. A lot of wine at a reasonable price. The Gruner was super interesting because there’s not much, if any, in Paso Robles. The Chardonnay, Merlot, and Malbec were great and we also enjoyed the Tempranillo.
Thank you to Morgan for taking care of us and explaining the wines. It had been quite some time since we last tasted through the whole line up.
