Sammy’s first Thanksgiving is here and oh my, is he beside himself with excitement…
Okay, that’s not true because obviously he has no Earthly idea what going on; he doesn’t even know what a booger is yet. The cool thing though is that Annie and I will just be selfish today and share the joy that we have of celebrating OUR first Thanksgiving with this new life we created.
It’s a funny thing that happened on the way to Thanksgiving 2012…little Sammy boy was born and it adds a whole new level of life and love, especially this time of year. So, even though I think we should practice being thankful each and every day…today I am thankful for a healthy baby boy and the most amazing mom I have ever known…Annie.
I still get goose bumps watching her with him and it excites me that she is so excited about being a mom. It makes me happy to know that Annie was always wondering if she would ever have kids and now she has this special little dude. I’m indescribably thankful to each and every one of you that has supported us in any way, shape, or form. I’ve never understood the power of people, or appreciated it, more than I do now.
From our Paso Robles friends and family to this simply amazing group of friends we have built online over the past four years. I will not name names because I would be afraid to leave anyone out…but I hope you know who you are and I hope you understand just how much you mean to us…this journey that Annie and I have been on for almost six years would not be the same without you. I constantly try to come up with words to get you to understand just how much it means and I feel I always fall short. Just know that Annie and I are thankful for you…each of you.
To Annie…I love you more than I know how to say sometimes and did not think I could see you in any brighter light, but watching you be a mom to Sammy has done just that. I love you and Happy Thanksgiving.
To Sammy…I know you don’t care about these Holidays yet or even know what the heck is going on around you but I know that you will be reading all these blog posts one day and I want you to know I love you. More importantly I want you to know that you have the best mom, she loves you more than unconditionally…I see it and I feel very fortunate to be part of that. I also want you to know just how insane it has been to see the outpouring of love for YOU from all over this country (Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Arizona) to Paris to Canada and beyond. I marvel at how much people love you simply because your mom and I have put your story (and ours) out there. I hope you soak that up and do good things in this world…bring people together, love them, help them…and be thankful.
That is all from this corny, mushy man on this Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy every second of this day and every other day because you never know when it will be gone. Cheers friends, Happy Thanksgiving!

@MatthewLiberty my eyes filled with tears at such an awesome tribute to the power of love, perserverence and community. This Thanksgiving was special for me too as I got to celebrate with my two “baby” men together for the first time in probably 10 years and it was just awesome and as tear provoking. All I can say is parenting is the best job, the most amazing thing we could ever do with our lives and I, like you and anniebrowne are so thankful we have our boys. huggs.
