I’ll start by saying that the American spirit, more importantly the human spirit, is absolutely awe inspiring. With the catastrophe in Haiti, and the outpouring of concern and donations from Americans and the world, it’s been awesome to see. One reason it is so amazing is that we are in the worst financial situation in decades yet people are reaching deep to give money and time to help those less fortunate.
What is it about catastrophe that brings this out of people? Why can’t this sense of giving and caring be more sustainable? The fact that you have young & old, rich & poor, men & women…from every country around the world, standing side by side for a common purpose (to help those in a time of great need) is proof that we are of one race, the human race.
We have all seen the power of coming together in large scales: 9/ 11, Hurricane Katrina, and now the earthquake in Haiti (just to name a few); but where have you seen this on a small scale in your local community? In your life? I would love to hear some stories.
