I recently had a conversation with several people about social media in regards to where it was 1, 2, and 3 years ago compared to today. A year and a half ago (roughly) when I got involved, there was far more debate about whether or not social networking/ media was worth the time to do. During this past year or so there have been so many concrete reasons (and proof) as to how important these tools are for business.
I am professing a bit beyond that though; from what I have seen of social networking it is bringing people together from around the world and even re-introducing us to being human, being helpful. The basics of social networking are to meet, discuss, laugh, share content, add value, promote others, promote yourself (not as much as you promote others though), and open your mind. I see this everyday on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, the blogs I visit, etc.
We are lucky to live in a time where tools like this have already, and will continue to CHANGE us for the better as long as we understand those basics listed above. At this point, those who don’t think we live in a time of game changing tools has either missed the boat or been in a coma for the last two years.
Get out there, join in the conversations, join the community of your choice, let your voice be heard, and most importantly; be YOU!! That’s what I want to give, and that’s what I want to receive. We live in a more transparent time which will hopefully lead to more honesty and people being themselves. Grab these tools and start building today, right now. And if you have any questions on how to do it, drop me a note I’d be more than happy to help.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
