PSA: How to Park on A Hill

This may come across as sarcastic or angry but much like the assholes that don’t use their blinkers when driving, I found another kind of driving asshole. If you ever want to see some amazingly stupid drivers you don’t need to go much further than going to an elementary school at drop-off or pick-up.

I was recently picking my son up from school and was parked on a hill facing the hill. So, I parked close to the curb and turned my tires to the left and backed up a touch to let the back of my front right tire hit the curb to chock it. Then I put the Jeep in park and turned on the emergency brake.

Over the next handful of minutes three cars parked in front of me up the hill, NONE of them turned their tires to properly chock them. They left them pointed straight. Then, a fourth vehicle parked in front of them and proceeded to park like I had BUT then proceeded to turn their front tires toward the curb rather than away from the curb.

Come on people, what the hell? When I see you not get this one simple safety related parking thing right it makes me wonder if you are even putting your parking brake on. Hone your driving skills. Learn how to park. It’s a safety issue that could not only negatively impact you but the others around you.
