John Edwards, Eliot Spitzer, Bill Clinton, Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, Jack Ryan…do you see a theme? I am blown away at elected officials that think we can’t see what they’re doing or that we won’t somehow eventually find out what they are up to. Politicians that talk about morality and values yet cheat on their wives and children. How does that work? Politicians that bash gays yet have gay affairs. How does that work?
We live in a world where people want to capitalize, get their 15 minutes of fame. So the non-famous side of political scandal often has no problem outing the guilty politician. That’s one point that these officials don’t seem to be grasping. The other thing going on is technology. We live in a time where everyone has a camera, a flip cam, etc. in which they can spontaneously get photos or video of strange happenings. Plus the new era of social media and how things go viral so rapidly due to sites like Twitter and Facebook just doesn’t allow for privacy as there once might have been.
So, my advice to elected officials: um, we can see you, so stop acting so ignorant!!!
